About
The Petersfield Area SuperHomes project was an initiative by Petersfield Climate Action Network (PeCAN) and the National Energy Foundation (NEF). We worked with local homeowners to help retrofit homes with energy efficiency improvements in accordance with a Whole House Retrofit Plan. Homes then underwent a SuperHomes assessment to measure the improvements to energy efficiency and domestic comfort.
NEF’s SuperHomes project is a rapidly expanding network energy aware members who are redefining green living to create a positive change for the benefit of our planet and their own health and comfort. PeCAN is a local community initiative working to make Petersfield and its surrounding villages carbon neutral. Particular areas of interest include local clean energy, energy efficiency, biodiversity, education, advocacy, and sustainable living
As a highly motivated community group, the PeCAN team had links with the National Energy Foundation and explored the possibility of working in partnership to ramp up the decarbonisation of housing in the Petersfield area. Thanks to funding from the Energy Redress Scheme managed by the Energy Saving Trust on behalf of OFGEM, PeCAN and NEF will collaboratively deliver a two-year project that meets the mission of both groups.

The Petersfield Area SuperHomes project will engage 150 homes whose residents are interested in creating a more sustainable home and provide them with ‘Whole House Retrofit Plans’ setting out a blueprint of the most suitable and effective improvement options for their property and lifestyle.
The partnership recognises that the home retrofit process from the design through to completion stage can be a daunting process to navigate and a significant investment. For this reason, WASH will support and guide the customers through their retrofit journey.

PeCAN and NEF view the role of community groups who focus on local climate change action as crucial to engaging and enthusing residents to take personal steps to reducing their environmental impact. One of the most readily available and cost-effective ways to achieve this is in our own homes.
This new retrofit service enables us to build on our existing relationship and create a network of energy efficient properties benefitting from knowledge exchange and the sharing of expertise. Local retrofit models will be essential in driving the large-scale transformation of homes which is urgently needed to help us on the path to achieving a net zero UK by 2050.

By registering with the project you’ll receive access to qualified and accredited professionals, support to check eligibility and apply for grants, subsidies for low- and middle-income homeowners, technical back up from the National Energy Foundation and direct support from Petersfield Area SuperHomes Project Officer. As part of the project you’ll also receive free SuperHomes network membership for one year which will entitle you to free entry to networking and knowledge sharing events from other residents and industry experts.

“Areas like Petersfield need
to establish new ways to
proactively manage
sustainable growth.”
Petersfield SuperHomes is supported by:
Objectives
Supported by the UK wide SuperHomes project and the National Engery foundation the Petersfield SuperHomes project was established to work through the area’s goals for eco-refurbishment on a scale that capitalises on a more collaborative drive towards sustainable descisionmaking:

01. Happier Homes
We delivered 150 Whole House Plans starting the retrofit journey to improve home energy efficiency, reduce running costs, and create healthier more comfortable households.
02. Healthier Planet
The retrofitted homes will, collectively, cut carbon dioxide emissions in the area by thousands of tonnes through the coming decades.
03. Creating Community
The retrofitted homes will inspire others on their retrofit journey, through peer-to-peer support between existing and future customers of the service.
04. Job Creation
PASH empowered local workers by subsidising suitably qualified professionals to become Retrofit Coordinators. In addition, there is support for contractors to gain Trustmark accreditation for installation work. PASH is supported by generous funding for these aims.

05. Future insight
The project facilitated new research activity, including investigation into the effect of home retrofit on property values and how to optimise the timing of retrofit to maximise the effect on your home’s value.
Team
Petersfield Area SuperHomes was brought to you by a team of dedicated and experienced people who are committed to helping residents understand home retrofit and set them on a course suited to their lifestyle and property.

“Changing the way that
our communities coordinate
around ideas of energy
effciency is an issue that
extends across the strength
of our green economy and
the health and comfort of
residents.”

Funding
We understood that home retrofit can be a daunting task, but through internal funding and government grant schemes there was help available to ensure you can install the most effective measures on your home.

Upon the closure of the project, £122,171.17 out of the £125,000.00 capital grant funding was spent between January 2023 and October 2023 helping 46 distinct households on their journey to home retrofit.

These retrofitted homes will lead the way locally in demonstrating how existing homes can be made more sustainable and the host of benefits this brings to owners.

Become a SuperHome
Customers who have received a Whole House Retrofit Plan were encouraged to proceed with an assessment of their proposed retrofit project against the SuperHomes Rating Scheme developed by NEF which provides a benchmark of refurbishment excellence. Once installation work had been completed, the performance in terms of home energy use and comfort is monitored and evaluated. This leads to properties becoming certified as a SuperHome according to a one to five-star rating, with five star representing an exemplar zero carbon home that offers maximum comfort. Find out more about the SuperHomes Rating Scheme here.
