The UK Government has set out an ambition to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050. 17% of our current emissions come from the UK’s 29m existing homes. SuperHomes has been set up to help achieve net zero by facilitating the delivery of home retrofit. The retrofit community will need to pull together to make hitting this target a reality – as many as one million homes will need to undergo retrofit transformations every year. That’s where we come in…

You may wonder, what is retrofit? Essentially, it is renovation with the intention of improving the energy efficiency of your home. Some examples of this would be to install double glazing, better insulation measures, or heat pumps, to name a few.

The SuperHomes Community is free to everyone and includes benefits such as access to our monthly newsletter, online Facebook group and bi-annual webinar events – these range from hearing from fellow residents about their retrofit journey, to guest speakers discussing the newest technology in the retrofit sphere.

By signing up to SuperHomes, you can also register your interest in having a Whole Home Retrofit Plan (WHRP) or Home Energy Retrofit Options (HERO) Plan completed for your property. Please see our ‘SuperHomes Plans’ page for more details on our services.

Finally, should you complete your retrofit journey, we also have the SuperHomes Rating Scheme (SRS) to monitor homes who are aiming for best practice. Please see our SuperHomes Rating Scheme page for more details if this sounds relevant to you.

The SuperHome Team:

Paul – Head of Whole Home Retrofit

Paul is our Head of Whole Home Retrofit and spends much of his time working on our SuperHomes programme which focuses on the private homeowner sector. He leads the team working on grant funded retrofit projects, research initiatives and providing tailored advice to customers. Paul co-created the SuperHomes Rating Scheme for the evaluation of retrofit performance. He lives in his own SuperHome which he retrofitted in 2009 and to which he has since welcomed over 500 visitors inspiring many to go on and take action to retrofit their own home. He has led multiple retrofit projects several of which received recognition through winning high profile national awards.

Paul has over 35 years of experience working in the built environment sector, two decades of which were spent in affordable housing. Originally graduating as a Building Surveyor, he went on to study a Masters in Sustainable Development and is a Chartered Environmentalist. He joined NEF in 2020 having previously supported the NEF team as a consultant.

Sally – Project Manager

Sally joined The National Energy Foundation in August 2021 to work on the charity’s SuperHomes projects. Prior to joining NEF, Sally completed a BA Hons in Geography from Newcastle University in 2020 and briefly worked as a Legal Market Researcher.
