About
Three Rivers District Council and the National Energy Foundation’s SuperHomes project teamed up for SuperHomes: Three Rivers, offering residents free expert guidance to plan, finance, and implement energy-efficient home improvements. Residents were encouraged to act promptly to receive a complimentary home survey and a custom light Retrofit Plan for maximum energy efficiency, cost savings, and a reduced carbon footprint.
SuperHomes: Three Rivers was a project brought to you by the Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) and the National Energy Foundation (NEF). We offered Three Rivers residents free, independent, tailored advice and support to help them plan their retrofits, identify finance options, and find trusted contractors to deliver high-quality energy efficiency improvements to their homes.
For a limited time, Three Rivers residents who engaged with SuperHomes: Three Rivers were eligible to receive a FREE home survey conducted by a qualified Retrofit Coordinator followed by a bespoke Home Energy Retrofit Options (HERO) Plan, worth £250. This plan helped identify the measures they could take to make their homes as energy efficient as possible with estimated installation costs, and potential energy bill and carbon savings.
The National Energy Foundation is an independent domestic energy and sustainable housing charity who have been at the forefront of improving the use of energy in buildings for more than 30 years. The SuperHomes project within NEF is a rapidly expanding network of energy-conscious homeowners who are redefining green living to create a positive change for the benefit of our planet and their own health and comfort. With Three Rivers District Council aiming to achieve net-zero emissions in the area by 2045, both parties are combining their efforts to help reduce the carbon footprint of domestic homes.
The council, together with the National Energy Foundation (NEF) and Grand Union Community Energy (GUCE), were awarded £298,000 from the ‘Fast Followers’ funding from Innovate UK – the UK’s national innovation agency – which aims to advance local progress towards net-zero and help unlock the barriers to building a greener future. Three Rivers District Council and its partners are one of just 21 projects nationally to have been awarded the innovation funding following a competitive bid process.
As the 2050 net-zero goal set by the Government loomed closer, it became increasingly important to reduce our carbon footprint wherever possible. The Government announced that by 2035, it was likely that the majority of homes across the country would be unable to install a replacement gas boiler and would need to install a heat pump or other low carbon alternative. This deadline was pivotal due to the climate crisis we faced; any progress we could make toward a greener future was a step in the right direction.
In light of this, we encouraged anyone who wished to reduce their carbon footprint to join our retrofit project and take advantage of the financial support on offer. As we moved closer to these deadlines, grant funding might have become harder to source; therefore, getting involved early could have been extremely beneficial in the long run.
